The Edge of Everything

I spent this morning trying to organize my bookshelf, but I ended up sitting on the floor for an hour instead. I found an old postcard tucked inside a book I haven’t opened in years. It was just a picture of a cliffside, but it made me think about how we spend so much of our lives rushing toward a destination. We treat the road like a chore, something to be endured until we reach the place we actually want to be. But what if the point isn’t the arrival? What if the point is just being somewhere where the ground meets the sky, where the air feels different and the noise of the city finally stops? Sometimes, I think we are all just looking for a place to stand still for a moment, to let the wind pull at our clothes and remind us that we are small, and that being small is perfectly fine. Is there a place you go to when you need to remember how to breathe?

From the California Coast by Ronnie Glover

Ronnie Glover has captured this feeling beautifully in his image titled From the California Coast. It feels like a quiet invitation to pull the car over and just watch the world for a while. Does this scene make you want to start a journey, or does it make you want to stay exactly where you are?
