Home Reflections Defying the Pull of Earth

Defying the Pull of Earth

I dropped a bowl of cherries on the kitchen floor this morning. They didn’t just land; they bounced, rolled, and scattered into every dark corner under the cabinets. For a second, I just stood there watching them, wishing they would hover in the air instead of surrendering to the floor. We spend so much of our lives tethered to the ground, governed by the heavy, invisible rules of gravity. We expect things to fall, to settle, and to stay exactly where they land. But there is a quiet, rebellious joy in imagining a world where the ordinary refuses to be weighed down. It makes me wonder why we are so obsessed with keeping our feet planted when our minds are constantly trying to drift upward. What would happen if we let go of the need for things to be grounded, just for a moment, and allowed ourselves to float in the space between the floor and the ceiling? Is it possible that we are at our most vibrant when we are suspended in mid-air?

Flying Strawberries by Luca Corsetti

Luca Corsetti has captured this feeling of weightlessness perfectly in his image titled Flying Strawberries. It is a playful reminder that even the simplest things can defy expectations if we give them the chance. Does this image make you want to reach out and catch what is falling?
