Bright Spots in the Gray
I walked to the mailbox this morning in my heavy coat, feeling a bit grumpy about the slush on the sidewalk. Everything looked so muted, just shades of slate and charcoal under a thick, stubborn sky. I was halfway back to my front door when I saw a neighbor’s toddler toddling down the path in a bright yellow raincoat. It was such a loud, cheerful splash of color against the dullness of the street that I actually stopped in my tracks. It made me realize how much we rely on those small, vibrant interruptions to get us through the long stretches of winter. We spend so much time bracing ourselves against the cold and the monotony, waiting for the seasons to change, that we sometimes miss the deliberate ways people try to brighten the world around them. It is a quiet kind of rebellion, isn’t it? To carry something vivid when the world insists on being gray. What is the one thing that always manages to pull your attention back to the present moment?

Moslem Azimi has captured this exact feeling of warmth in their beautiful image titled Snow and Colors. It is a lovely reminder of how a simple pop of color can change the entire mood of a scene. Does this image make you want to go out and find your own bright spot today?
