The Weight of Small Things

I spent this morning trying to fix a broken kitchen drawer. It was a simple task, or so I thought, but the wood kept catching and the screws wouldn’t sit right. I found myself getting frustrated, wanting to just toss the whole thing out and buy something new. Then, I stopped. I looked at the worn edges of the handle and realized how many times I had pulled it open over the years. It wasn’t just a piece of furniture; it was a record of my daily life. We spend so much of our time chasing the big milestones, the things that feel heavy and important. But there is a quiet, steady dignity in the small, repetitive work we do to keep our lives moving. It is in the hands that keep mending, the patience that keeps building, and the joy found in things that don’t cost much but mean everything. Is it the result that matters, or the care we put into the process?

The Toy Maker by Akib Husain

Akib Husain has captured this feeling beautifully in his image titled The Toy Maker. It reminds me that there is so much purpose to be found in the work we do for others. What is a small task that brings you a sense of peace?
