The Weight of Gravity
In the study of physics, we are taught that gravity is a constant, a silent tether that keeps our feet anchored to the earth and our belongings from drifting into the ether. We live our lives in a state of perpetual negotiation with this force, leaning into it, pushing against it, or occasionally, finding a way to suspend our disbelief for a few precious seconds. There is a strange, quiet courage in the act of letting go—of trusting that the air might hold us, or that the water will rise to meet our descent. We often think of weight as a burden, something to be carried through the long, slow hours of the day. Yet, there are moments when we seek to shed that weight entirely, to become something lighter, something that moves with the wind rather than against it. Is it possible that we only truly understand the ground beneath us once we have dared to leave it behind?

Ryszard Wierzbicki has captured this precise, fleeting defiance of gravity in his image titled Slide. It is a reminder that even when we are tethered to the elements, we are capable of soaring. Does this image make you feel the pull of the earth, or the freedom of the sky?
