The Sweetness of Balance

I spent twenty minutes this morning trying to stack my books on the nightstand. They kept sliding, a messy pile of paper and ink that refused to stay put. I eventually gave up and left them in a crooked heap, realizing that some things just aren’t meant to be perfectly upright. We spend so much of our lives trying to keep everything in order, building our own little towers of expectations and to-do lists. We worry about them tipping over, about the inevitable collapse of our carefully arranged plans. But there is a certain charm in the tilt, isn’t there? When we stop forcing things to be rigid, we start to notice the texture of the moment itself. It is in the slight lean, the precarious weight of a day, that we find the most character. Perfection is often just a cold, static thing, but a little bit of imbalance? That feels like life. It feels like a breath held just before a laugh. How often do you find yourself holding your breath, waiting for the stack to fall?

The Leaning Tower of Macaroons by Diep Tran

Diep Tran has captured this feeling perfectly in the image titled The Leaning Tower of Macaroons. It reminds me that even the most delicate things can find their own way to stand tall. Does this image make you want to reach out and steady the tower, or are you happy to let it lean?
