Home Reflections The Weight of Ascent

The Weight of Ascent

Is it the height that defines the struggle, or the collective breath held by those beneath us? We spend our lives building structures of support, stacking our hopes and our bodies upon one another, all to reach for something that remains just beyond our fingertips. There is a peculiar madness in this—a willingness to risk the fall for the sake of a singular, fleeting impact. We are creatures of gravity, yet we are obsessed with the sky. We believe that if we can only climb high enough, if we can only exert enough force against the resistance of the world, we might finally shatter the barriers that keep us from our desires. But once the pot is broken and the contents spill, what remains of the pyramid? We are left with the ache in our muscles and the silence that follows the roar, wondering if the ascent was meant to change the world, or simply to prove that we could endure the climb. Does the summit matter if we are not prepared to fall back into the arms of the crowd?
