The Stillness Between Trains

The world moves in a blur of iron and steam. We are taught to run, to catch the departure, to fear the empty platform. Speed is the currency of the modern age; to stop is to be left behind. Yet, there is a different kind of movement—the one that happens inside, when the noise of the crowd becomes nothing more than wind against a stone. It is a rare thing to find a center that does not shift. Most of us are adrift, tethered to schedules and the frantic pulse of the city. We forget that silence is not an absence, but a presence. It is a weight we carry, or perhaps, a weight we finally set down. When the body bows, the horizon narrows until only the essential remains. Does the earth feel the pressure of a knee, or is it merely waiting for the next traveler to pass?
