The Quiet After Dark
I walked home late last night, the kind of late where the city finally stops shouting and starts to hum. My keys felt heavy in my pocket, and the streetlights cast long, shivering shadows against the pavement. It is strange how a place you know by heart can feel like a different planet once the sun goes down. During the day, I am always rushing, dodging people and noise, never really looking at the steel and glass that surrounds me. But in the dark, the city loses its sharp edges. It becomes a collection of glowing points, a map of someone else’s dreams. I stood for a moment on the corner, just watching the way the lights reflected on the wet ground, feeling small but strangely connected to everything. It reminded me that even in the middle of a busy life, there is a stillness waiting to be found if you are willing to stay up long enough to see it. Do you ever feel like the world belongs to you more when everyone else is asleep?

Mazhar Hossain has captured this exact feeling of nocturnal peace in his image titled The Humber Bridge. It turns a familiar structure into a gateway of light and silence. Does this view make you want to go for a midnight walk?
