Home Reflections The Pulse of the Dark

The Pulse of the Dark

I walked home late last night, long after the shops had pulled their shutters down. The city felt different in the dark. Usually, I am rushing from one place to another, eyes fixed on the pavement, counting the minutes until I reach my front door. But last night, the silence made me stop. I looked up at the windows of the apartment buildings nearby. Each one was a tiny, glowing box, a secret life tucked away behind glass. It is strange how we live so close to one another, separated by nothing but thin walls and a few feet of air. In the daylight, we are just faces in a crowd, hurried and anonymous. But at night, the city feels like a giant, breathing machine, humming with the collective energy of thousands of people dreaming, working, or simply staring out into the black. It makes me wonder what everyone else is thinking about when the world finally goes quiet. Does the darkness make us feel more connected, or just more alone?

Dubai At Night by Bashar Alaeddin

Bashar Alaeddin has captured this feeling perfectly in his image titled Dubai At Night. He has turned the quiet hum of the city into something truly luminous. What does the night look like from your window?
