Home Reflections The Edge of the Day

The Edge of the Day

I was walking home this evening when the streetlights flickered on, just as the last bit of color was draining from the sky. It’s that strange, quiet transition where the world feels like it’s holding its breath. I found myself stopping in the middle of the sidewalk, just watching the shadows stretch out and lose their definition. We spend so much of our lives trying to hold onto things—trying to keep the light, keep the day, keep the moment from slipping away into the dark. But there is a specific kind of grace in the fading, in the way the world softens before it disappears. It makes me wonder if we are meant to be so busy chasing the brightness. Maybe the most honest parts of ourselves only come out when the sun starts to dip, when we stop performing for the day and simply exist in the cooling air. Do you ever feel like you’re waiting for something, even when you don’t know what it is?

Sunset in Maasai Land by Orhan Aksel

Orhan Aksel has captured this exact feeling of transition in his beautiful image titled Sunset in Maasai Land. It feels like a quiet pause at the very end of the world. Does this scene make you feel restless, or does it bring you a sense of peace?
