Sugar and color. They’ve crowded the frame. I’m looking for a place to rest my eyes, but there’s no room for breath. The macarons are loud. They’ve pushed the shadows into corners that don't offer silence. It’s a bright distraction from the rain, I suppose. But I’m craving the wall behind them. I’d trade every cone for a sliver of nothing. Nothing here is accidental. Yet, the empty corner is missing. It’s too full.

It’s technically competent, sure, but I’m left craving a bit of chaos. At 2/5sec, Lindsay had the perfect excuse to let the macarons bleed into the cones, embracing the kinetic energy of a rainy afternoon. Instead, she’s opted for a clinical, sharp stillness that feels almost stifling. Why resolve every crumb? I’d have loved to see her abandon the Nikon’s precision for something more impressionistic, closer to Sugimoto’s blurred theatres than this safe, domestic cataloging.

It’s a cheerful enough diversion, I suppose. One suspects the macarons didn’t require much coaxing to sit still, unlike the stubborn light I’m accustomed to chasing across the Highlands. It’s technically sound, though I’m left wondering if the photographer ever stepped outside to see what that rain was actually doing. I’ve spent weeks shivering for a single frame; this feels like a comfortable afternoon indoors. It’s pretty, but it didn’t cost nearly enough.
