Elephants Walk by Ryszard Wierzbicki

During a jeep safari through the Serengeti in September 2011, the photographer captured a poignant moment as a group of elephants moved in a steady line across the vast landscape. The image highlights the rhythmic, majestic nature of the herd against the expansive African plains. By choosing a high shutter speed to freeze the movement and a telephoto focal length to isolate the subjects, the photographer successfully conveyed the scale and grace of these giants. The photograph is award-worthy for its ability to transform a fleeting wildlife encounter into a timeless study of animal behavior and natural harmony.

Reflections on this Photograph
By Beatriz Andrade

The Rhythm of the Unhurried

I often think of the city as a series of heavy, rhythmic pulses, like the slow turning of a tram wheel against a rusted track or the measured pace of a stranger walking home through the Marais at three in the morning.

The Rhythm of Belonging

I spent this morning watching a line of ants navigate the cracks in my kitchen floor. It sounds mundane, but there was something hypnotic about the way they followed one another, each one seemingly aware of the path laid down by the one before.
