It’s a tidy enough arrangement, though one wonders if the chickpeas were still warm when the shutter clicked. There’s a certain clinical efficiency to an iPhone capture that rarely feels earned. I’ve spent enough mornings shivering in the dunes of Al Jubail to know that light is a fickle companion. This salad looks pleasant, certainly, but it hasn’t cost the photographer a single sleepless night. It’s a snack, not a struggle. I’m left quite hungry, actually.

Top-down food shots usually leave me cold, but this salad has a pulse. It’s clean, sure, but where’s the chaos? Cartier-Bresson would’ve waited for a stray chickpea to roll off the plate or a hand to reach in. It’s technically sharp, yet it lacks that frantic, unrepeatable heartbeat of the street. I’m hungry, but I’m not moved. One tenth of a second later and the light might have told a better story.
