Angel Falls by Nilla Palmer

Capturing the sheer scale of Angel Falls, the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, required significant dedication and a challenging journey. After a light plane flight to Canaima and a 90-kilometer trek by dugout canoe, the photographer navigated a steep, hour-and-a-half jungle hike to reach the primary lookout. The resulting image masterfully conveys the 980-meter drop of this natural wonder, balancing the immense verticality of the falls with the lush, dense textures of the surrounding Venezuelan rainforest. This photograph is award-worthy for its ability to translate the raw, inaccessible grandeur of a remote landscape into a singular, breathtaking moment of clarity and awe.

Reflections on this Photograph
By Isabelle Park

The Weight of Falling

I spent this morning trying to fix a leaky faucet in the kitchen. It was a small, persistent drip that had been driving me crazy for days. I kept tightening the handle, but the water just found a new way to slip through.

The Gravity of Descent

In the quiet hours of the morning, I often think about the nature of falling. We are taught to fear it, to brace our bodies against the inevitable pull of the earth, as if gravity were a personal affront rather than the very tether that keeps us from drifting into the void.
