The Wisdom of Letting Go

There is a quiet dignity in the way things return to the earth. We often fear the passing of time, seeing it as a thief that steals our strength and our structures. But if we sit with the peeling paint and the weathered wood, we see something else entirely. We see the surrender of human ambition to the patient rhythm of the seasons. Nothing is truly lost; it is simply changing its shape, softening its edges, and finding a new way to belong to the landscape. To stand in the presence of such stillness is to realize that we, too, are part of this cycle of growth and release. We do not need to hold on so tightly to the things we have built or the versions of ourselves we have curated. There is a profound peace in allowing the wind and the sun to do their work, leaving behind only the essence of what once was. What remains when the noise of living finally fades away?

Bodie by Don Peterson

Don Peterson has captured this gentle surrender in his image titled Bodie. It invites us to witness the grace found in a place that has learned to let go. May you find a moment of similar quiet in your own day.
