The Weight of Stillness

I spent an hour this morning trying to fix a wobbly chair in my kitchen. I kept shifting the legs, adding folded bits of cardboard, and holding my breath, hoping for a moment of perfect balance. It is strange how much effort we put into finding stability in things that are meant to be temporary. We want the world to stop moving just long enough for us to catch our breath. But the world rarely waits. It keeps shifting, flowing, and pulling at our attention. I realized that maybe the point isn’t to force everything to be perfectly still. Maybe the point is to find a way to be steady even when the ground beneath us feels like it might drift away. When we stop fighting the movement, we start to see the patterns in the chaos. We stop looking for a permanent fix and start appreciating the way things hold together, just for a little while, in the dark. Do you ever find yourself holding your breath, waiting for the world to settle?

Tower Bridge by Stefan Thallner

Stefan Thallner has captured this beautiful image titled Tower Bridge. It perfectly mirrors that feeling of finding a steady anchor in the middle of a restless night. Does this scene make you feel grounded or adrift?
