The Quiet Watcher
I spent this morning sitting on my back porch, trying to finish a book, but I kept getting distracted by the movement in the hedges. A small bird kept darting in and out of the leaves, so quick that I could barely track its path. I found myself holding my breath, just waiting for it to land and stay still for a second. It made me realize how rarely we actually stop to observe the things that don’t demand our attention. We are so used to loud noises and bright screens that we forget how much life happens in the silence. There is a strange, heavy peace in just waiting for something to reveal itself, not because you forced it to, but because you were patient enough to be there when it decided to show up. It makes me wonder how many beautiful, small things I have missed simply because I was too busy looking for something else. What are you waiting for, if you just sit still long enough?

Saniar Rahman Rahul has captured this beautiful moment in his photograph titled Black-backed Forktail. It perfectly mirrors that feeling of stillness I found in my garden. Does this image make you want to slow down and watch the world for a while?
