The Quiet Among the Crowd
I was walking through the subway station this morning, surrounded by the usual rush of people checking their watches and clutching their bags. Everyone was moving in a straight line, eyes fixed on the ground, desperate to get to the next thing. Then, I saw a small pigeon perched perfectly still on a discarded newspaper, right in the middle of the chaos. It wasn’t startled by the noise or the heavy boots thundering past. It just sat there, head tilted, completely unbothered by the frantic pace of the city around it. It made me realize how often we let the rhythm of our surroundings dictate our own internal speed. We think we have to be loud and fast to belong, but there is a strange, quiet power in simply choosing to stay put when the world is demanding that you run. Sometimes, the most radical thing you can do is just exist in your own space, undisturbed by the noise.

Laria Saunders captured this exact feeling of stillness in her image titled Unlikely Visitor. It is a beautiful reminder that peace can be found even in the busiest of places. Does this image make you want to slow down, too?
