The Persistence of Small Things

We walk past the common things. We name them weeds, we pull them from the earth, we dismiss them as interruptions in the garden we try to impose upon the wild. But there is a quiet stubbornness in the things that grow without permission. They do not ask for soil or sun; they simply take what is given and endure. In the long winters, when the ground is locked in frost, we forget the resilience of the seed. We forget that life does not always announce itself with color or height. Sometimes, it is found in the low places, in the stems that bend but do not break when the wind turns cold. To notice the small is to admit that we have been looking at the world with eyes too wide, missing the quiet pulse beneath our boots. What remains when we stop trying to cultivate the earth and start listening to it?

Mazhar Hossain has taken this beautiful image titled The Dandelions. It reminds us that even the most overlooked life carries a weight of its own. Will you look closer the next time you walk through the grass?
