The Long Way Home

I spent an hour this morning watching a stray cat navigate the fence in my backyard. It moved with such deliberate, quiet focus, pausing every few steps to check the wind or listen to a sound I couldn’t hear. It made me think about how much of our own lives we spend rushing toward a destination, rarely stopping to simply exist in the space we occupy. We are always arriving, always planning the next turn, while the world around us is full of creatures who seem to understand that the journey itself is the only thing that is truly ours. There is a profound, silent dignity in just being present, in standing still while the rest of the world hurries past. It is a reminder that we don’t always need to be doing something to be worth something. Sometimes, the most important thing you can do is just stand your ground and breathe. Do you ever find yourself stopping just to watch the world go about its business?

Saniar Rahman Rahul has captured this quiet, grounded spirit in his photograph titled Pacific Golden Plover. It feels like a beautiful pause in a very long journey. What do you see when you look at this little traveler?
