The Edge of Everything

I spent this morning trying to fix a leaky faucet in the kitchen. It was one of those small, nagging tasks I’d been putting off for weeks. I kept turning the wrench, feeling the cold metal against my palm, and for a moment, I just stopped. I listened to the steady, rhythmic drip of the water against the porcelain. It sounded like a heartbeat, or maybe a clock counting down something I couldn’t name. It made me think about how much of our lives are spent trying to contain things—trying to keep the water in the pipes, the time in the day, the chaos at bay. We build our little walls and tighten our bolts, hoping to stay dry and steady. But there is something wild just outside our windows that doesn’t care about our maintenance or our schedules. It just keeps crashing against the shore, indifferent and beautiful, reminding us that we are only ever visitors on the edge of a much larger, untamed world. Do you ever feel that pull to just let the faucet drip and walk away?

Wind, Waves, and Rocks by Manon Mathieu

Manon Mathieu has captured this feeling perfectly in her image titled Wind, Waves, and Rocks. It shows the raw power of the coast, and it makes me want to stand right at the edge of that spray. Does this scene make you feel small in the best way possible?
