Home Reflections Small Against the Stone

Small Against the Stone

I spent an hour this morning trying to fix a loose shelf in my kitchen. I kept looking at the wall, feeling frustrated by how crooked the brackets were and how small my tools looked against the expanse of the plaster. It’s funny how we spend so much of our lives trying to build things that feel permanent, yet we are only ever passing through. We stand in front of structures that have outlived generations, and for a moment, we feel the weight of our own brief presence. It isn’t a sad feeling, though. There is something grounding about realizing you are just a tiny part of a much larger story. We are the soft, moving pieces in a world built of heavy, unmoving stone. We don’t need to be the mountain to matter; we just need to be the ones walking past it, noticing the way the light hits the edges. Does it ever make you feel lighter, knowing how small you really are?

Standing Tall by Shirren Lim

Shirren Lim has captured this exact feeling in the beautiful image titled Standing Tall. It perfectly illustrates how we find our place against the backdrop of history. Does this image make you feel small or significant?
