Home Reflections Shelter in the Brightness

Shelter in the Brightness

I walked to the grocery store this afternoon, and the sun was so sharp it felt like it was pressing against my skin. I found myself ducking under the shade of every tree I passed, just to get a few seconds of relief. It made me think about how we spend so much of our lives trying to manage the heat of the world. We look for cover, for a thin veil to put between us and the intensity of the day. Sometimes, that cover is physical, like a hat or a doorway, but other times it is something quieter—a habit, a secret, or a way of looking at things that keeps us from feeling too exposed. We are all just moving through the glare, carrying our own little pieces of shade, hoping to find a moment where the light feels like a gift rather than a weight. What do you use to shield yourself when the world feels a little too bright?

Oranger by Ryszard Wierzbicki

Ryszard Wierzbicki has captured this exact feeling of finding a personal sanctuary in his image titled Oranger. It is a beautiful reminder of how we navigate our own paths through the day. Does this image make you think of your own quiet ways of finding comfort?
