A Flash of Brightness
I was walking through the park this morning, feeling a bit gray. The sky was heavy, and I had a long list of chores weighing down my pockets. I was looking at the pavement, counting my steps, when a sudden burst of color caught my eye from the branches above. It was so vibrant, so unapologetically alive, that I stopped dead in my tracks. For a few seconds, the list of errands didn’t matter. The gloom of the morning didn’t matter. There was just this brilliant, singular spark of life existing entirely for itself, indifferent to my schedule or my mood. It’s strange how we spend so much time looking for meaning in grand gestures, yet it is often these small, fleeting encounters with wild beauty that pull us back to the surface. It reminds me that even on the dullest days, there is something waiting to catch our attention if we only bother to look up. Do you ever find yourself stopped by something small and bright in the middle of a mundane day?

Masudur Rahman has captured this feeling perfectly in his image titled Black-hooded Oriole. It feels like a quiet, lucky encounter with the wild, doesn’t it? What do you think this bird is looking at?
