Mastering the Art of Cropping

Written by Nasrul Eam

From removing the extraneous clutter of your frame to strengthen the overall composition, photographers: amateur as well as professional have been using the art of cropping to transform the image into extraordinary. Cropping is one of the most powerful tools for any photographer, and one of the first line skills to be artistic.

This guide is a complete exploration of the art of cropping — when to apply it, how much to take away, and how the decisions made at the edges of a frame can transform the entire meaning of an image. From strengthening a composition by eliminating distraction, to rebalancing a scene that did not reveal itself fully in the field, it offers photographers a deeper understanding of the frame as something still in progress, waiting for one final, decisive act of vision.
