This was the beginning of my exploration of the slums in the Smoky Mountain area. Smoky Mountain is a well-known district that is located on a garbage dump and has a characteristic view of the surrounding areas. I decided to do this trip on a one-day stopover in Manila. I hired a taxi driver for the day and we drove to the Smoky Mountain area. We met this gentleman at the very entrance to a narrow street “cut” out of a town cobbled together from corrugated iron and cardboard. He greeted us with a Victoria gesture.

The path, framed by dense foliage, weaves through the scene, its intricate curves outlined sharply in black and white. The surrounding plants, though devoid of color, offer texture and depth, their forms creating a natural border around the path. Each step she takes is a journey through a timeless, serene landscape, where the simplicity of the monochrome world highlights the elegant dance between human and nature.
