The Vocabulary of Photography: Line, Texture, and Shape
Before a photographer composes a frame, they must be able to see and name what is in it. The elements of photography — line, texture, shape, space — are the raw materials of visual language. Learning to identify them is the first step to using them deliberately.
Through eight structured lessons, you will develop fluency in the structural vocabulary of photography: how line leads the eye and implies emotion, how texture is created by the angle of light, how shape defines mass and proportion, and how positive and negative space interact.
