Natures First Green Is Gold! by Catherine Ferraz

This was taken in Ireland, choosing the perfect apple for this was not too hard with the excellent selection from the local fruit and veg man. I was even lucky enough to have my very own apple tree in the garden, that way I could add in the green leaves, to make these apples feel as though they were just picked from the tree. I added the scarf for what else than a bit of coziness, and creating shadow. I also used a bounce card for capturing the natural light on the details of the scarf and the leaves.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Frost “Nature’s green” is also “gold” as he expertly weaves a metaphor of the blooming of flowers in springtime. He compares the first buds of spring (green) to the ephemeral beauty of youth (gold). This is the spring, the first and shortest period of a person’s life: “Her hardest hue to hold.”
