Floating Village Victory captures the poignant reality of life in the remote, impoverished buffer zones surrounding Siem Reap, Cambodia. Ryszard Wierzbicki ventured into these rarely visited 'No Man's Land' areas, where displaced communities reside on the water. By engaging with the local children through simple gestures, the photographer gained the trust necessary to document their daily existence with intimacy and respect. The image is award-worthy for its raw, empathetic portrayal of a marginalized community, balancing the harsh conditions of the environment with the resilient spirit of those who call these floating villages home.
Born in 1963 and a graduate of the University of GdaΕsk, Ryszard Wierzbicki transitioned from a career in social sciences and marketing to become a dedicated traveler and photographer. After relocating to the United Kingdom in 2006, he channeled his passion into exploring South-East Asia, often volunteering with orphanages and establishing platforms for fellow travelers. Now working as a marketing advisor and tour organizer, Wierzbicki combines his adventurous spirit with a keen eye for human-centric storytelling, documenting the diverse cultures and landscapes he encounters across the globe.
