Home Reflections The Mess We Keep

The Mess We Keep

I spent this morning trying to scrub a stubborn blue stain off my kitchen floor. It was from a watercolor set I bought on a whim, thinking I might finally start painting again. As I scrubbed, I realized I didn’t really mind the mess. It was a bright, defiant smear against the white tile, a reminder that I had actually done something creative instead of just thinking about it. We spend so much of our lives trying to keep things tidy, trying to stay within the lines and keep our surfaces clean. But there is a specific kind of freedom in letting go of that control. Sometimes, the most honest parts of our day are the ones that leave a mark. It is the chaos, the spills, and the unintended splashes of color that prove we were truly present, rather than just passing through. When was the last time you let yourself make a beautiful, uncalculated mess?
