The Weight of Small Hands
I watched my niece yesterday as she tried to fold her tiny hands exactly like her mother’s while we sat at the dinner table. She didn’t know why we were pausing, or what the words meant, but she understood the gravity of the silence. It was a heavy, beautiful thing to witness—that instinct to mirror the people we love, even when we are too small to grasp the full meaning of their burdens or their hopes. We spend so much of our lives trying to find the right words to express what we need, searching for complex ways to reach out to something bigger than ourselves. Yet, sometimes, the most honest connection isn’t found in a grand gesture or a perfect sentence. It is found in the simple, quiet imitation of someone else’s devotion. It makes me wonder if we ever really outgrow that need to just hold our hands together and hope that someone, somewhere, is listening. What is the quietest way you have ever asked for help?

Shahnaz Parvin has captured this exact feeling of quiet devotion in her beautiful image titled Grant My Prayers. It is a gentle reminder of how much sincerity can exist in a single, small gesture. Does this image bring back any memories of your own childhood for you?
