Advising Instruction

Below are the list of courses that we offer for the Bachelor of Science program. Once you finished the first year pre-requisite core courses, other courses will be available for you to get enrolled. Notice the remaining days beside some of the courses for first year, which will be available to you over time, depending on your progress of enrolled courses.

Please note, each semester is 4 months long and you may take up to four courses each semester. All lessons are self-paced instructions, which a student can proceed at his/her own speed, but should finish the course within the time frame of 4 months from the day he/she starts the course.

First Year

The first year of our B.S. in Photography aims to consolidate the acquired knowledge and to get introduced to the camera, lenses, and their personalities. Students will study and understand light, because it is light that makes photography. Soon they will study the elements of composition, and practice with the structure, balance, and dynamics of it. They will also learn and practice the technical side of photography from basic to advance in details by mastering the art of close-up, or nature photography. For presenting artistic work with confidence, they will learn the building blocks of the English language as well as how to make it clearer and better organized.

Second Year

In the second year, students get introduced to the color and color management. They will learn how to do visualization, the way to capture decisive moments, and practice to master the art of portrait and landscape photography – two of the most important intricacies of photography. Students will also learn the basics of creative writings, and will be given the chance to get published professionally.

Third Year

In the third year, students will work with the style, develop their own voices, and prepare them for their future career. They will have thorough understanding of sensitometry, applied optics, imaging systems and image emulation. Students will learn to capture images that draw attention to an issue, change people’s minds, raise awareness and promote change. They will be given the opportunity to work with award winning professional photographers to have the first-hand experience of getting close to people, capturing their lives and moments.

The fourth year is optional. It is for those who want to do Double Major, an opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and capacities by pursuing a second Major alongside their primary Major that is B.F.A. in Photojournalism along with B.S. in Photography.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Photojournalism as Double Major

The forth years for Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Photojournalism as Double Major starts with the introduction to photojournalism, its historical context, its major practitioners and the methodologies they have used. Next, they will study, practice, and master the art of street and documentary photography – two of the most important intricacies of photography for photojournalism coincide with theoretical, methodological, and practical frameworks, necessary for the research and production of successful photo essays and visual storytelling. Not only they can develop their own voices, and prepare them for their future career as journalists, but also, they will be given the opportunity to work with some of our award-winning photojournalists.
