Advising Instruction

Below are the list of courses that we offer for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photojournalism program. Once you finished the first year pre-requisite core courses, other courses will be available for you to get enrolled. Notice the remaining days beside some of the courses for first year, which will be available to you over time, depending on your progress of enrolled courses.

Please note, each semester is 4 months long and you may take up to four courses each semester. All lessons are self-paced instructions, which a student can proceed at his/her own speed, but should finish the course within the time frame of 4 months from the day he/she starts the course.

First Year

The first year of our B.F.A. in Photojournalism aims to consolidate the acquired knowledge and to get introduced to photojournalism, its historical context, its major practitioners and the methodologies they have used. They will also study camera, lenses, and their personalities. Soon they will study and understand the elements of composition, and practice with the structure, balance, and dynamics of it. For presenting their work with confidence, students will learn the building blocks of English language as well as structure. Upon completing the four fundamental English courses they will start learning basics of creative writing followed by academic and journalistic writing.

Second Year

In the second year, students develop a critical awareness of the relationship between photography and the real world, including issues of representation, the law, and ethics. They will study and practice the technical side of photography from basic to advanced in details by mastering the art of street and documentary photography – two of the most important intricacies of photography for photojournalism. Students will also learn the advanced creative writings, and will be given the chance to get published professionally. Soon they will study and practice the theoretical, methodological, and practical frameworks necessary for the research and production of successful photo essays and visual storytelling.

Third Year

In the third year, students will work with the style, develop their own voices, and prepare them for their future career as journalist. They will be given the opportunity to do self-promotion, article and book publishing and exhibitions, and layout and editorial design. Students will learn to capture images that draw attention to an issue, change people’s minds, raise awareness and promote change. They will be given the opportunity to work with some of our award winning photojournalist to have the first-hand experience of getting close to people, capturing their lives and moments.

Fourth Year (optional) – Double Major

The fourth year is optional. It is for those who want to do Double Major, an opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and capacities by pursuing a second Major alongside their primary Major that is B.S. in Photography along with B.F.A. in Photojournalism.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Photography as Double Major

The forth years for Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Photography as Double Major starts with exploring perception and harnessing one’s artistic potential. Next, they will get introduced to the color and color management; study, practice, and master the art of nature and landscape photography – two of the most important intricacies of photography coincide with thorough understanding of sensitometry, applied optics, imaging systems and image emulation. Not only they can develop their own voices and prepare them for their future career as visual artists, but also, they will be given the opportunity to work with some of our award-winning photographers.
