Watching from the Edge

I spent this morning trying to fix a loose hinge on my kitchen cabinet. It was a simple task, or so I thought, but I kept getting distracted by the way the wind was shaking the branches outside my window. I found myself just standing there, screwdriver in hand, watching a single bird hold its position against the gusts. It didn’t seem to be fighting the air so much as negotiating with it. We spend so much of our lives trying to anchor ourselves, nailing things down, making sure everything is secure and predictable. But there is a quiet power in simply knowing how to stay steady while everything around you is in motion. It made me wonder if we are actually more capable of handling the turbulence of our own lives than we give ourselves credit for. We are often more resilient when we stop trying to control the wind and start learning how to balance within it. What is the one thing you are holding onto today that you might be better off letting go of?

Hawk of Hevsel by Mehmet Masum

Mehmet Masum has captured this sense of poised intensity in his beautiful image titled Hawk of Hevsel. It feels like a reminder that there is a stillness to be found even in the wildest of places. Does this image make you feel like you are being watched, or that you are the one doing the observing?
