Most pet portraits are forgettable fluff, but this one lingers. I’ve seen thousands of dog photos, and they usually fail because they’re too posed. Marciniak’s shot works because the Shetland’s gaze isn't directed at the lens, but at something just beyond the frame. It’s that quiet, unforced curiosity that makes me smile. The soft autumn light catching the fur texture is fine, but the dog’s internal life is what ensures this will still matter in thirty years.

I’m tired of seeing perfectly sharp fur that lacks any real texture. It’s just data, not photography.
