An Annapurna Child by Ryszard Wierzbicki

Captured during a trek through the Annapurna Circuit, this portrait highlights the fleeting, curious encounters between travelers and local children. The photographer utilized a 200mm focal length to bridge the distance, allowing for an intimate study of the child's expression without disrupting the natural scene. The image captures the resilience and spirit of youth in a challenging landscape, where school commutes are long and arduous. Its award-worthy quality lies in the empathetic connection established between the subject and the lens, transforming a simple roadside meeting into a poignant narrative of cultural exchange and human curiosity.

Beautiful child. It is as if time has stopped. Back in the simpler days long since passed my Father would traverse long distances making his way to and back from school. Come springtime, you could catch a glimpse of schoolchildren working in the fields.
