Sunflowers by Kirsten Bruening

This close-up photograph of a closed sunflower blossom was taken on a hot summer day in our garden. While I was working in the garden it occurred to me to photograph the buttons and not the flower. The sunflower symbolizes the radiance of an unforgettable summer and stands for happiness, warmth and confidence. It was no coincidence that the sunflower was the symbol of the legendary hippie movement and was regarded as a symbol of a more peaceful world.
