A Grandpa and His Grandchild by Siew Bee Lim

Captured in May 2018 near Padang, this poignant image documents a quiet, intimate moment between a grandfather and his granddaughter. While roaming near a busy bus stop, the photographer observed the elderly man pausing to carefully adjust the child’s shoe, likely clearing away sand. This tender interaction, set against the backdrop of parked coaches, highlights the universal beauty of familial care. The photograph is award-worthy for its candid emotional resonance and the photographer's ability to transform a fleeting, everyday gesture into a timeless narrative of love and protection.
