Moment of Childhood Joy by Emteaz Ahmed

Captured at the Fishery Ghat in Chittagong, this photograph freezes a fleeting moment of pure, unadulterated childhood joy. The photographer observed a young boy flying a kite atop a stone barrier, his movements radiating a dauntless energy that serves as a poignant mirror to the viewer’s own forgotten youth. Taken at midday, the image utilizes a fast shutter speed to crisply define the boy against the coastal backdrop. It is an award-worthy piece because it transcends a simple portrait, successfully evoking a universal nostalgia and the bittersweet realization of how precious childhood is only once it has passed.

The Weightless Season

There is a lightness that belongs only to the beginning of things. Before the world asks us to carry its heavy expectations, we exist in a state of grace, tethered to the earth by nothing more than a thin string and a dream.

The Salt on the Wind

The taste of a summer afternoon is always salt and grit. It is the feeling of sand wedged deep beneath fingernails, a tiny, abrasive reminder of a day spent running until the lungs burn.

It is a remarkable moment of childhood registered by the photographer. It is nothing more related to this part of chil’s life like playing with a kite. For me it is an essence of “catching the moment” in photojournalism.
