Captured at an altitude of over 4,220 meters, this image documents the Tren de las Nubes as it pauses before the La Polvorilla Viaduct. The photographer highlights a poignant moment where young artisans brave the extreme, snowy conditions of the high-altitude landscape to offer their handmade treasures to travelers. By balancing the vast, harsh environment with the intimate human element of the vendors, the photograph captures a fleeting, candid interaction. It is award-worthy for its ability to convey the resilience of the human spirit against a backdrop of breathtaking, desolate geography, freezing a unique cultural exchange in time.
Based in Brisbane, Australia, Nilla Palmer has cultivated a lifelong passion for photography that began with a 110mm film camera in childhood. Her artistic foundation was built through formal studies in photography, Communications Design, and Multimedia, which refined her eye for light and composition. Driven by a desire to share the stories of far-off lands, Palmer specializes in candid photography, seeking to capture unguarded, authentic moments that resonate with viewers across the globe.

Amazing photo!
There were quite a few of these young kids (and younger), selling arts & crafts in the snow in the Andes at over 4,000mts; too cold in a bitter wind.
As the stops are not designated stops, they just wait until the train stops near them to run up to the train’s windows to sell their goods.
brings back lots of memories of an amazing continent!
Another stunning photograph on the reality of life in South America!
