The Spectator and the Competitor by Prasanth Chandran

Captured during the vibrant Onam festival in Kerala, this image documents the intense energy of the Champakara Boat Race. The photographer frames a compelling juxtaposition between the focused competitor warming up with his rowing team and the inquisitive spectators observing from a nearby boat. By highlighting the human element amidst the grand tradition of the snake boat race, the image captures a fleeting, authentic moment of cultural heritage. Its award-worthy quality lies in the narrative tension between the two subjects, effectively transporting the viewer into the heart of this spirited annual competition.

Reflections on this Photograph
By Sven Lindqvist

The Distance Between Us

There is a line that separates the one who acts from the one who watches. It is a thin, invisible border, yet it holds the weight of a lifetime. We spend our days drifting between these two states.

The Salt on the Skin

The air before a storm tastes of wet iron and crushed river reeds. It is a heavy, humid thickness that clings to the back of the throat, demanding you swallow the atmosphere whole.

Esta toma es espectacular, aqui observo al equipo remar de espaldas al objetivo, el lider esta claro hacia donde los lleva, eso es liderazgo, un lider y los seguidores en equipo por el mismo objetivo, o meta, en este caso.

The color contrast between the waters – light and dark is like the difference between the competitor and the spectator…

Love the shadow of the bridge. It shows us the photographer wants to show us the truth, which is rear in the time of Photoshop.

The Shade of the Bridge from which the Photographer took the pic is seen on the pic. That gives away the beauty. You can see the electric wires also in the shade.
