Central Park Tunnel by Christopher Utano

Captured within the historic confines of a Central Park tunnel, this photograph explores the interplay of geometry and light. The photographer utilized a wide-angle 10-20mm lens to accentuate the rhythmic, converging lines of the brickwork, creating a powerful sense of depth. By patiently waiting for a solitary figure to enter the frame, the artist successfully transformed an architectural study into a compelling narrative piece. The choice of a black and white aesthetic emphasizes the stark contrast and structural elegance of the tunnel, earning recognition for its masterful composition and the deliberate, thoughtful execution of the scene.

The smell of damp earth always brings me back to the underside of things. It is a heavy, metallic scent, like cold iron pressed against the tongue.

I love the style of this photograph. The high contrast, deep blacks and bright whites add to the drama of the photograph. The patterns, simplicity and symmetry add to the story and the sense of depth you get from the leading lines is impressive. Great photo. Well done!

    I love this!

Great compsition with the lead-in in the top of the picture.

Taking the shot with the person slightly off centre stepping into the picture from the light works perfectly.

I’m glad you resisted the temptation to HDR the background and keep it pure white light.

    Nice one.
