Hatcher Pass by Mike Criss

Captured at the historic Independence Mine in Hatcher Pass, this photograph highlights the stark, haunting beauty of a long-abandoned industrial site set against a rugged Alaskan backdrop. The photographer utilized a 75mm focal length to isolate the weathered structures, emphasizing the contrast between the stillness of the landscape and the remnants of human endeavor. The image is award-worthy for its evocative composition and the way it transforms a local winter playland into a timeless study of texture and history, capturing the quiet, desolate majesty of the Alaskan wilderness.
