Home Reflections The Weight of the Current

The Weight of the Current

We often mistake stillness for an absence of movement, forgetting that the deepest waters are those that carry the most history. To wait in the rain is to learn the language of patience; it is to let the sky dissolve the sharp edges of the world until everything becomes a soft, grey watercolor. There is a quiet dignity in being held by the elements, in allowing the downpour to wash away the frantic pace of our own making. We are like vessels moored in the silt, waiting for the tide to decide our direction, learning that to be anchored is not the same as being lost. Sometimes, the most honest version of ourselves is found when we stop fighting the weather and simply let the mist settle into our skin, turning our heavy thoughts into something fluid and weightless. If the river could speak of all it has carried to the sea, would we find our own forgotten burdens among the stones?

Rahat Azim Chowdhury has captured this quiet surrender in his beautiful image titled Dauki River Boats. Does the mist feel as heavy to you as it does to me, or does it offer a kind of peace?
