The Geometry of Suspension
When the mountain mist descends, it does not merely obscure the landscape; it creates a temporary, white-walled sanctuary where the usual markers of direction and distance dissolve. In the high alpine, this is a state of necessary dormancy. The mountain goat, caught in the sudden opacity of a cloud, does not pace or fret. It simply stops. It understands that movement without visibility is a gamble against the cliffside. We, however, are rarely comfortable with the pause. We treat the interval between departure and arrival as a flaw in the system, a glitch in our carefully plotted migrations. We forget that the world often requires us to be still so that we might recalibrate our senses to the immediate, tactile reality of the ground beneath our feet. What happens to our internal compass when the horizon is erased, and we are forced to exist only in the space we currently occupy?

Jose Miguel Albornoz has captured this exact feeling of suspension in his image titled Exploring Airports. It is a quiet study of how we hold ourselves when the path forward is hidden by the elements. Does this stillness feel like a burden to you, or a chance to breathe?
