A Journey to Paris by Kirsten Bruening
Once the largest royal residence in the world, the Louvre is now the third largest museum in the world. Since the Louvre Museum opened in 1793, its collection has grown to more than 380,000 objects, of which approximately 35,000 are currently on display. The building is located in the centre of Paris between the right bank of the Seine and Rue de Rivoli. Its courtyard is on the historic axis that stretches from the bell tower of the church of St-Germain-l'Auxerrois to the glass entrance pyramid of the Louvre and the Grande Arche in La Défense, with the Champs-Élysées at its core.
