The Weight of the Path

The road is not a destination. It is a persistent question asked of the earth. We walk, and the land yields, or it does not. In the north, the paths are often erased by the wind, leaving us to navigate by the memory of where we have been rather than where we are going. There is a particular exhaustion that comes from looking too far ahead. It blinds you to the texture of the ground beneath your feet, to the way the light settles into the hollows of the hills. We are taught to measure progress in miles, in hours, in the conquest of distance. But the earth does not care for our speed. It waits. It remains long after the traveler has turned to dust. Is it the journey that changes us, or is it simply the act of letting go of the need to arrive?

Abhishek Dutta has taken this beautiful image titled Long Way to Go. It captures the quiet persistence of a path winding through the silence of the valley. Does the road lead you home, or further away?
