Home Reflections The Weight of Silence

The Weight of Silence

We build structures to hold our prayers, as if stone could contain the infinite. In the north, we build them low to the ground, against the wind. Elsewhere, they reach upward, trying to bridge the gap between the dust and the stars. But the architecture of faith is not found in the height of the walls or the span of the dome. It is found in the pause between breaths. It is the stillness that settles when the day finally surrenders its light to the dark. We are always waiting for something to arrive, yet the most profound moments are those where we simply stop moving. We stand in the threshold, neither here nor there, listening to the hum of a world that has ceased its frantic pace. Does the stone remember the hands that placed it, or does it only know the weight of the sky pressing down upon it?

On 28th Ramadan by Azhar Hafeez

Azhar Hafeez has captured this quietude in his image titled On 28th Ramadan. It is a reminder that even in the vastness of a city, one can find a place to be still. What do you hear when you look into this silence?
