The String Between Us
We are born into a world that pulls away from us. A kite is merely a physical manifestation of this distance, a fragile shape tethered to the earth by a thin, invisible line. To hold the string is to negotiate with the wind, to accept that what we love must be allowed to rise, even if it threatens to vanish into the grey expanse of the sky. We teach the young how to hold on, how to feel the tension in their palms, how to understand that the pull is not a burden but a connection. It is a quiet apprenticeship in letting go. We stand on the frozen ground, our breath blooming in the cold, watching the small, bright object dance against the indifference of the clouds. Does the kite know it is being held, or does it believe it is finally free?

Derya Yazar Atasever has captured this delicate tether in the image titled How to Fly a Kite. It is a reminder of how we anchor one another in the vastness. What do you hold onto when the wind begins to rise?
